TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE AIRPORT:
The San Antonio International Airport is approximately 8.5 miles from the downtown business district with a travel time of approximately 15 to 30 minutes by car.
– Book your airport shuttle in advance to take advantage of discounts. Go to www.swvs.org, and click on About San Antonio to reserve your shuttle. If you don’t make reservations in advance follow the signs in the baggage claim area to purchase shuttle service tickets. Shuttle service to the downtown area is $18 one-way or $32 round-trip. Reservations are required for the return trip to the airport.
– Two to six ride for the price of one. Approximate fares, not including tips, to the downtown business district from the airport range from $24 - $26.
– If you’re in town for a few days and want to take advantage of the Streetcar, your best deal is to buy a One Day Pass for $4.00. You may order your pass online, go to www.swvs.org, and click on About San Antonio or stop by the San Antonio CVB booth located in the SWVS Registration Area. When you get in town, pick up a streetcar brochure in your hotel lobby. All four streetcar routes connect you to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
– The River Taxi stops at 39 locations on the River Walk. Purchase a one-way pass for $4, 24-hour pass for $10 or a 3-day pass, $25. Look for the river cruiser with the black and yellow checkered flag.
– In the downtown area, there is a minimum charge of $5. Two - six people ride for the price of one.
– The Sightseer Special (Bus 7) runs daily between the city’s favorite sites. You can travel to them all for one price. Locations visited by the Sightseer Special include: River Walk Streetcar Station, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Alamo, San Antonio Museum of Art, Japanese Tea Garden, Brackenridge Park, San Antonio Zoo, Trinity University, University of Incarnate Word, Witte Museum and San Antonio Botanical Garden.
The Convention Center is an easy walk from the SWVS Official hotels in the downtown area. See the map for the exact routes on page 57.
There are many parking options in San Antonio; however, no parking is available at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The main parking lots are the Marina Parking Garage located adjacent to the Marriott Riverwalk Hotel and across the street from the Grand Hyatt. There is event parking in the Grand Hyatt Hotel. SWVS has negotiated special room rates for SWVS attendees at five major hotels located within blocks to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Don’t miss out on the special discounted room rates for SWVS attendees. There are five major hotels to choose from with different room rates and amenities. All hotel rooms are on a first-come, first reserve basis. Reservations need to be made directly with one of these official SWVS hotels. Please mention you are a SWVS attendee to receive the special room rate. After August 21, all rooms not reserved will be released and the special room rate may not be available.

More than 400 hours of quality continuing education courses are offered at SWVS 2009 for practitioners, veterinary students, technicians, veterinary technician students, practice managers, office staff and hospital personnel. A maximum of 31 credit hours are available during the general symposium. Additional credit hours are available: DVMs licensed in Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas may claim an additional 2 hours by visiting the Exhibit Hall. Please check with your state veterinary medical licensing board for specific continuing education allowances and requirements. See page 26 for further details.
Complimentary hot buffet lunch will be provided to all registered professional attendees on Friday in the Exhibit Hall, Sponsored by Bayer Animal Health. Guests may pre-purchase a Friday lunch ticket when they pre-register as well as on-site at the Symposium. On Saturday and Sunday there will be lunch concessions available in the Exhibit Hall (cash and credit cards accepted).
Our goal is to provide a safe environment for everyone. There is a chance that overcrowding could occur in some lectures. SWVS must comply with the fire marshal’s policies to ensure we are safe. If a meeting room is at capacity, no one else will be allowed in the room until it is safe to do so. We ask for your understanding and patience should this occur. Plan to arrive early for a specific lecture if you wish to participate.
San Antonio is a family-friendly city, and SWVS invites you to make this an annual family event. Guests, spouses, and children are all welcome at SWVS 2009! Guest/Spouse tickets are only $40 each and must be a family member or a guest who is not a veterinarian, veterinary technician, office staff, or practice manager. Children 17 years and under do not need a name badge but must accompany a registered attendee at SWVS 2009 events. If you have any special needs, we are here to accommodate you. All meeting rooms are accessible via wheelchair in the Convention Center. If you plan to ride the shuttle, prior special requests will be required. Contact SWVS at 972-664-9800 no later than August 21 so that we can make arrangements for you.
SWVS reserves the exclusive right to all recording or reproductions of SWVS 2009. Unauthorized recording is prohibited, either by video, still, digital camera, cell phone or any other form of reproduction. This includes recording of presentations and supporting audio/visual materials, exhibits and other supporting CE materials including proceedings. Any person attending SWVS 2009 may be photographed or videotaped and by attending gives permission to use their image in possible future marketing publications including print, online, and video.
Press and media must register with SWVS prior to attending the symposium and press credentials will be issued to authorized media.
All cell phones must be turned off during continuing education lectures/interactive labs/workshops/CE event tours/master class/meet the expert luncheons.

SWVS recognizes the many legitimate uses of alcoholic beverages in the process of conducting business and social activities. We also recognize that the use and consumption of alcohol at our functions carries with it the requirements to consume those beverages responsibly and in keeping with our professional code of ethics and conduct. We strongly oppose the abuse and misuse of alcohol.
All of the SWVS official hotels are just steps away from the famous San Antonio River Walk, where you can find an abundance of exciting dining and entertainment choices as well as the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. In addition, using SWVS official hotels keeps your registration costs to a minimum.
