FAQs

The answers to many commonly asked questions about SWVS can be found on this page.  If you do not see your question or answer on this page, please Contact Us for more information.

Where can I find a detailed, easy-to-use CE Symposium schedule?
A general symposium schedule is located on page five (5) of the SWVS 2008 Symposium Guide or on the General Schedule page online. A detailed schedule is available on pages 17-25 of the Symposium Guide or online in the Continuing Education section of this site. You will also receive an easy-to-use On-Site Guide when you arrive at SWVW 2008. For the most current symposium schedule, please refer to the General Schedule and Continuing Education pages of this site.

Can I register for SWVS now?
Online registration for SWVS opens on Thursday, May 15th. The early bird deadline is June 30. If you register by August 29 your registration packet/passport will be mailed to you before the Symposium.

Other important dates to remember are:

  • Advanced Registration - July 1-31
  • Last day to preorder the Proceedings Book Set - July 31
  • On-Site Registration Fee Begins - August 1
  • Last Day to Register for the Interactive Labs - August 15

Why should I register by August 29?
Pre-registered attendees will receive their registration packets/passports, complete with name badges and tickets by mail before the Symposium and avoid waiting in line to get these items at SWVS 2008.

Should I bring my family to Dallas this year?
Absolutely! Dallas offers an array of activities for family members of all ages. Please see the "Experience Dallas, Experience Southwest Veterinary Symposium 2008" brochure for suggestions of ways to experience Dallas.

Why do you ask for a billing address and mailing address?
The billing address is required to verify payment information and if for any reason a refund is due. The mailing address is critical to receive your pre-registered mailing which includes your name badge.

Can I deduct the cost of attending SWVS?
Registration fees are not deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes. However, such contributions and fees may be deductible by attendees under other provisions of the IRS code. Please check with your financial advisor.

Can I pay by check if I register online?
Yes. Simply go through the online registration process, follow the instructions, submit your registration, and mail in your check within five business days.

Why do you need my email address if I register via mail or fax?
For efficiency purposes, our preferred method of sending confirmations and important information is by email. If you do not have an email address, don't worry, we can send a confirmation in the mail. Please allow 6 business days to receive your mailed confirmation. If you are considering an Interactive Lab or Meet the Expert Luncheon session with limited space you may want to register online. With manual processing of forms through the mail or fax there is a chance you may not get your first selections. We respect your privacy and will not sell your name or send unsolicited emails to you.

Do I need to bring business cards?
Your name badge will have your contact information encoded in it, which most exhibitors can scan so you don’t have to carry as many. Do bring some, however, to share with new friends and colleagues.

Can I attend the Interactive Labs only?
Due to the hands-on learning in small group settings in the labs you must register for the conference, either 4-day or 1-day, and on the day the lab is scheduled, to attend Interactive Labs.

Registration to SWVS is not required to attend the Design Conference or the Pet First Aid Development Workshop.

I live nearby and can't come during the day. How can I get to CE?
Evening Continuing Education sessions are offered Thursday - Saturday from 7:00 - 9:50 pm allowing you to obtain up to 9 hours of CE credit. Special pricing for DVMs for those twilight sessions is listed on the Registration page of this site.

I am a retired veterinarian, can I also attend?
Of course, we would love your attendance! Call SWVS at 972-664-9800 for details.

How do I find out if my state VMA will be holding any activities while at SWVS?
Check www.swvs.org or contact your state VMA. This information will also be available on-site.

Who can attend the DVM Alumni/DVM Student Reception?
We invite all veterinary school alumni and current veterinary school students to join us at the annual DVM Alumni/DVM Student Reception. SWVS is about partnerships and we encourage you to maintain your personal partnerships with old schoolmates and colleagues through our receptions.
