Stephan Pyles
(Southwest Cuisine)
1807 Ross Avenue
Located just across the street on Ross Avenue
Dinner at Stephan Pyles, the new restaurant by the famed Dallas chef who’s been pretty much resting on his laurels for five years. Those who remember his last big solo production will find this venue to be the un–Star Canyon. Mr. Pyles’ 1994 take on Texas cowboy cuisine was loud, swaggering and totally duded out. The new Stephan Pyles is urban–cool. It is as low–lit as now–defunct Star Canyon was hot. It is as multifaceted as Star Canyon was a one–trick pony.

Ice cold drinks and full flavored selections, these dishes taste like no other Tex–Mex! Fuse
1512 Commerce St
(214) 742-3873
6 blocks, 12–15 min walk
Cowboy boots are the fashion statement for fall, and ethnic looks remain hot. So why not enjoy a bit of both at downtown’s newest hot spot, Fuse, where the cuisine theme is Tex-Asian? Chef Blaine Staniford’s fusions come off well in most cases; you won’t find tofu corny dogs mounted on chopsticks. His self–control when it comes to stereotype and kitsch pays off in food that looks and tastes as happening as the venue.

Fedora Restaurant & Lounge
located at One Arts Plaza
(214) 999-0009
7 blocks, 12–15 min walk
In the low key black and white visual style of Hollywood’s classic film noir period, Fedora borrows a liberal slice from this genre’s hardboiled school of crime fiction, in both attitude and interior. The sexy location in the One Arts Plaza is a perfect backdrop to showcase a menu of classic interpretations of Italian pastas, pizzas, and other traditional dishes inspired by passion and panache of all things Italian.
